Purpose and Summary
The Substitute Teacher supports a classroom’s regular teaching staff in implementing class activities and projects. Substitutes engage students in educational activities and maintain a safe and nurturing environment for students under the guidance of the Lead Teacher(s), and Preschool Director. A key piece of the Substitute’s role is the flexibility to adapt to different programs and their routines an age-appropriate curriculum for a designated age group. Provide support to children and their families when needed. Perform a variety of duties related to the classroom and annual programs.
Qualifications:
Substitute Teachers must have 9 to 12 academic units in Early Childhood education. They must be in the four core classes, child development, child family and community, theory, and one academic course such as language and literacy. Possess knowledge of licensing standards for preschool and can implement them in the classroom. Able to maintain confidential information regarding preschool families, communicate in a positive and effective manner when speaking with families.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
• Fill in for regular teaching staff during absences, on a long or short-term basis
• Clearly and effectively communicate with teachers, administrative staff, and Directors regarding their availability and shift times
• Support class activities and projects according to class structure, with guidance from classroom teachers, or lead lessons prepared by the regular teacher
• Engage students in a nurturing manner that uses positive guidance techniques; facilitate games and activities with students
• Be knowledgeable of and follow school policies, protocols, and expectations
• Create a physically safe and attractive classroom environment
• Help maintain classroom through cleaning and organization
• Consult with Lead Teacher or Preschool Director when uncertain about how to handle a situation
• Perform other duties as assigned

Compensation: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
